I’m going to let you in on a little secret.
Are you ready?
It’s okay to say no. (large sigh)
It’s a big topic to tackle but you and I can do it.
There is so much personal shame attached to the word no in our society. We are ran by our clocks, calendars, and inbox, failing to look up at the world around us to see we are running ourselves in 50 different directions.
Not only are we exhausted by our over commitments and inability to let people down, that we have lost sight of our vision and goals. We are so concerned with pleasing the people around us by being a “yes” person that in turn, we are actually hurting ourselves. We feed our short term ego with saying yes to everything, meanwhile paralyzing our long term potential.
I’ve recently had to say some hard no’s to things that I loved. Even to things that filled me up and made me happy.
Insert the word sacrifice here.
We are all created to create. Every single person on this planet has the ability to do big things with their lives, great things. But how can we do big things, if we are so busy saying yes to everything else, in turn, having to say no to our dreams?
There will always be meetings, workshops, hang outs, etc. to fill your calendar. It’s not about saying no to everything. It’s about saying yes to the right things and no to the things you simply can’t focus on right now. There is a season for everything. If you are in a season of relaxation, take time to relax and soak in the things that fill you up. If you are in a season of extreme hustle, learn to be strong and say no to things that don’t serve your cause.
It’s so easy to get distracted by life and it’s grandeur attractions. But taking a moment before responding yes to something gives you the opportunity to discover if that commitment serves you and the season you’re in right now.
Stop shaming yourself into this idea that you must do, be, see, and attend everything. You don’t. Give yourself the permission to focus on what you need to focus on and say no to the things you don’t.
Doing this will allow you to live a happier lifestyle.
You’ll feel less overwhelm and more control over your life.
You’ll feel less stressed and more at peace with your schedule.
You’ll stop procrastinating and pushing things off because you’ve finally given yourself the time it takes to get stuff done.
